In This House : Forest End 91

Coneberry Village is a small village. Not many
people live there, and usually it is quite a sleepy
place. The streets have common names, as fits
the town's properties. There are streetnames like
Market Street, lanes like The Sandy Lane, roads
like Tower Road and names like Forest End.
But this quiet town has its share of mysteries too.
For instance : what happened to the girl that lost
her key and wandered off into the overgrown backyard
of Forest End no.91 ? Was she indeed kidnapped by
pirates and crowned to be their Queen of the Seas ?
The inhabitants of Coneberry Village have a gusto for
fantasy and mystery and the stories told amongst
them are usually embellished with details that
have sprung from the imaginations of the storytellers.
There are few villages where sitting on a bench and
listening to a local is more entertaining.

In This House : Forest End 61

In a cabin in Forest End lives a girl together with
her loving parents. Her name is Ruth, but everyone
always calls her Sweety. She really is the sweetest
little girl you have ever seen, she is cute as a button.
But there is something strange about her too. It is
said that she can see the fairies of the forest and
she is seen, seeming to play with invisible others
ever so often. It is also said that the fairies always
hang around her, not percieved by others, or are they ?
Her mother at least seems to be talking a lot when she
is around little Ruth, talking about things the girl could
not possibly understand. Sweety loves to be taken for
long walks through the forest in her stroller. She does not
speak often but whenever she wants her parents to
take her to the forest she says : shall we go for a ride ?

In This House : Chapel Road 17

Mister Jones has always been interested in travelling,
so when he turned twenty, he decided that he would embark
on an Incredible Journey, and so he did. First he worked a
year in Coneberry Village's harbour to earn enough money
to start his travels. After that year he became a deckhand
on a ship that was going to sail around the globe. He had
the time of his life. He worked, learned about new cultures
and new people, he saw things that most people only read
about in magazines and he loved it. After nine years he
returned to Coneberry Village and decided that he had
travelled and seen enough to last him a lifetime. He bought
the house on Chapel Road 17 and made a sign to hang over
his front door : East, West, Home's Best. He has been earning
his money by writing books about his adventures and
has never felt the need to leave Coneberry Village again.

In This House : Old Town Square 6

A lonely woman lives in Old Town Square 6. She has
been hiding there for years because of her past. She used
to be a well known singer, but because of her connections
with the high and mighty she now has to hide herself
from journalists who are trying to discredit both her
and her acquaintances. Her house is one of the, if not
the most colourful in Coneberry Village. She designed
it herself and had it painted in happy, summery colours.
She always says that the colours of the house are like her,
a colourful personality but caught in a golden cage. Noone
in Coneberry Village ever asked her what actually happened
and why she is hiding in the small town. Is she hiding
something ? And if so, what is she hiding ?

Nijmegen Four Days Marches : Day Four

The Vierdaagse is always drawing a crowd of one
million visitors. Especially on fridays many hundreds
of thousands of people line the last few kilometers of
road before the finish to cheer on the walkers. That
street, the St. Annastraat, is named "Via Gladiola" for
the day, as the gladiola is the official flower of the
marches, and it is tradition to give them to the
participants. As far as a week ahead people will
reserve spaces alongside the Via Gladiola by placing
chairs and even couches.

For the third time these marches we met dutch tv
celebrity Harm Edens and since he had promised
to carry the walkers on hands (a dutch expression)
my sister asked him to do so on the first and the
second day but he declined. He could not of course
decline her the last day and he carried my sister for
a bit of the walk !

Our arrival at the Via Gladiola turned from lovely
weather (see top photo) to lots of rain and thunder,
again (see lower photo). Our shoes filled up with water,
but since we were very glad that we were on the Via
Gladiola it did not bother us too much. We all made it
and we are looking forward to next year. First time
walker Linda (http://dametje20.hyves.nl/) also made
it, so we are very proud of her.

Nijmegen Four Days Marches : Day Three

Today was the third day of the marches and there was a
LOT of rain. Thursday's walk is called the Queen's-stage,
meaning that it is the hardest of the four walks. Todays
walk leads the participants through the hills to the east
of Nijmegen.

As you can see on the picture we had a really hard day
with four hours of rain and dropping temperatures. And
because we walk in shorts or skirts that is very hard on
the muscles. We walked in the rain for about four hours
which meant that we were really sogging in our shoes,
since they filled up with water. We all made it today too,
and so did Linda (http://dametje20.hyves.nl/).

Nijmegen Four Days Marches : Day Two

The second day of the Nijmegen Four Days Marches
(Vierdaagse), the day of Wijchen, went very well. There
have been no accidents, the weather was sunny and
the atmosphere on the Wedren was fantastic.

The second day of the Vierdaagse is also known as
Pink Wednesday (http://www.rozezaterdag.nl/) and is organised
by the thriving gay community that is present in Nijmegen.
During the day we recieved a pink lei and wuppies in many
different colours.

Today went well for us, of course we had our share
of pain, but we have had worse days. Right now we
are resting and preparing for the new walk tomorrow.
During the walk we also met some people we know
of whom we did not know they were participating,
it is a small world ! The marches are held in a different
part of the country than the part we live in and there
are 45.000 people walking the Vierdaagse, so it was
really special that we met them. We met Teun (an
acquaintance), a former colleague of mine whose name
i do not remember and Linda (http://dametje20.hyves.nl/)
and we all wish them a good walk.

Nijmegen Four Days Marches : Day One

The start of the 93rd Four Days Marches (Vierdaagse)
went well. Early in the morning, at four o'clock, Marchleader
Johan Willemstein opened the marches for the participants
that have to walk 50 kms. The present spectators cheered
and applauded when the participants started their walk.
This first day of the marches is known as the Day of Elst.

This is what we saw this morning at a quarter to six
when we started our walk. This bridge is called the
Waalbrug.

Our day went well, it was quite warm, but that is
much better than having to walk in the rain. My dad
was the only one with some muscle trouble, but we
are hoping that he will be feeling better tomorrow.

Some animals are just funnier than others and one
of those funny animals is the Owl ! Well i think so
anyway. So i just had to make one and i think it worked
out so nicely that i shall make more of them in the future.
A flock of owls, looking forward to it :)

Nijmegen here we come, again !

Next tuesday we will be participating in the Nijmegen
Four Days Marches again. This will be the fifth time
and we are really looking forward to it again.
The Four Days Marches are an achievement walk for
four consecutive days, in which annually over 45,000
walkers are participating. From all over the world people
are coming to Nijmegen to walk for four days in and
around the city and its beautiful surroundings. The women
have to walk 40 km (27 miles) for four consecutive days
making it a total of 160 km. The men have to walk 50 km
(34 miles) for four consecutive days making it a total of
200 km. Thousands of spectators are cheering the walkers
along the route every day. After four days of walking a
glorious entry over the Via Gladiola awaits the walker and
afterwards they will receive their well-deserved
Four Days Medal.

The Four Days Medal (Vierdaagsekruis) is for
many a coveted and, once earned, a cherished
possession. It is shown to friends and relations,
often given a place of honour in the home. The
medal is the "cross for proven marching ability",
as formulated in the Order-in-Council of October 1909.
After the event, the Four Days Marches participant
usually accepts his or her medal whithout realising
that their efforts have earned them a royally approved
decoration which Dutch servicemen may wear on their
uniform. The Four Days Medal is one of The Netherlands'
official decorations.

Frugal Santa

For these frugal Santas you need an old book, pictures
from folders you get in the mail, some (printed)
vintage vignettes, glitterglue, some string and glue.

Even more recycle craft

I am very much into crafts that recycle stuff, give
is a second life so to say. BUT i do not want to reuse
stuff that will not give me a hundred percent great
result, i do consider quality a very important aspect.
I am quite content with the result of recycled enevelopes
though. They are recycled pages from magazines and i
think they look cool. If i would get a postcard or letter
in an envelope like this, i would keep them both.

As our world is overflowing with our waste,
it becomes more and more important to recylce
and that is just what i have been doing, making
more envelopes. When i choose pages for these
envelopes, i tend to go for the ones with little or
no lettering on it, but that is very personal of course.
