My Crafty Family : part VII

My father has made this fantastic Mah-Jong table. It plays
really very nice. No drinks allowed on this one ! He reused
an old felt puzzle cloth to make the top.

Last week my sister came to visit us and she made this
Caroling Choir. How sweet they are. They look even
cuter in real life. They turned out very different from the
example on the package, which was kind of dull. So thumbs
up for "own interpretation".

She also made these Christmas Gnomes. They are just
too cute and cudly to be true. They will be looking lovely
and cheering up their living room this Christmas.

And last but certainly not least : my uncle crocheted these
awesome pot-holders. One in the Dutch colours and one in
the norwegian ones, as i am a dutchie living in Norway.
He made these using the Tunesian Crochet technique,
something he had not done before. They are looking really
great in the kitchen.

Christmas Notebooklet

This Christmas notebooklet is accordeonfolded and
has a cover out of scrapbookingpaper, decoration
papers, punched snowflakes and glitter. Sadly the
glitter accents do not show on the picture.

Arch : Icy Blue and Grey Santa

This week's weather was like the background of this
arch. We got icy blue cold, a few snowflakes and greyish
brown skies which carried a lot of rain. All in all the
weather was bumpy to say the least !

In This House : Chapel Road 3

On Chapel Road lives Frank Brite, one of the members
of the CSI, the Coneberry Society of Inventors. He really
has a lot of bright ideas. He found a way to grow daisies
in the middle of winter and invented the Paraphone,
a machine that is said to make it possible to talk with
ghosts and spirits. He invented much more than this,
but these two are his favourite inventions. There is
of course a reason for this. One of his experiments went
wrong. It was a teleportation device that his wife Sue was
all too prepared to try out. She did disappear from the
starting pod, but never appeared at the destination
one. Frank was unconsolable and has been trying to
come in contact with his wife ever since. Sue had been
very fond of daisies and that is why Frank is dressing
his house with daisies all year long. Sadly he has not
yet been able to come in contact with his wife. He has
spoken to every ghost and spirit in Coneberry but
none of them has seen Sue in their realm. He is
determined to not stop trying though.

In This House : Ocean View 4

Ocean View 4 is a red wooden house where the Seabury
family spends their weekends and vacations. It is a happy
place where laughter can often be heard. The family is
father Jack, mother Mary and their twin daughters
Petunia and Lily. The twins just love to stay in the red
house, where boredom does not exist and where there
are adventures to be found under every pebble and
seashell. They love to visit Coneberry Village too, where
they thouroghly enjoy to shop at the weekly market,
check out all the tiny stores and have hot chocolate at
the inn. It is during those weekends and vacations that
dreams are made, beautiful memories that will last
a lifetime.

In this house : Old town Square 1

Each year, the Bontecou family has two reunions,
right here in Coneberry village. They are a colourful
bunch. There is Uncle Fred, by day an accountant,
by night the host and most important participant
in a karaoke bar called "Just Sing Along !" His brother,
Uncle George, is the local coroner for the police, but
because of the lack of corpses, he has a job on the side
sewing clown outfits. Aunt Ginny is a merry little woman
that everybody just has to like. What might explain her
merriness is that she always carries around a big bag of
cherry liqueur chocolates.
The twenty-nine familymembers that attended this
auntumn's reunion had a fantastic dinner at the
Coneberry Inn and afterwards headed to the home of
Niece Kathy, who lives in Old Town Square. There
they had coffee and played games until the evening
had turned into night. Everyone agreed that this was
the best reunion they had ever had, as they do every
time.

In This House : Abbey Garden 1

Aurelia is the daughter of Alexandru and Constanta,
two circus artists who travel the world performing
for public in a big, colourful tent. Aurelia is for the
time being living with Constanta's sister, Camelia,
because her parents want her to get a good
education which is impossible for her to get when
always on the move. Alexandru and Constanta
send Aurelia at least one letter a week and toys
from every corner of the world. Aurelia collects
the stamps on the letters she recieves in an album
and tries to find out as much as she can about the
countries they come from. Her uncle has a large
bookcase with an Encyclopedia which she uses
very often, and every week she visits the library
to check if there is more information to find.
The toys she puts on shelves in her room. Every
toy is accompanied by a small card with the name
of the country it came from. She likes all her toys
but there is one in particular that she likes the
best. It is a dollhouse that was made in china.
It has pretty furniture and a family of six dolls
that live in it. All the dolls have silk clothes and
have pretty painted faces. Aurelia has lots of
teaparties with her dollhouse dolls and in the
evenings she puts them into their beds. There is
one thing that is very odd with this dollshouse
though. Every morning when Aurelia gets up and
takes a look in the dollhouse, its inhabitants are
already sitting round the kitchentable having breakfast …

In This House : Baker Street 4

Coneberry Village has many extraordinary,
extravagant and eccentric inhabitants. It is in fact
hard to find anyone that is not special in one or
another way. One Society in particular has a
lot of special members. It is the CSI, the
Coneberry Society of Inventors. All its members
like to invent. Some invent very useful things,
like a handbag that brings the thing you need
from it to the surface so that you do not have
to dig in it for minutes to finally get out your
housekey. But there are also other inventors
that invent things that are much less useful
like colourchanging ties. After a while these
ties get a mind of their own and refuse to
change to the colour of the wearer's wishes
and change colour whenever they feel like it,
as is very clear in this photograph. Whenever
there is a camera in sight, they change to
blazing red.

Market Street 6 houses one of the restaurants in Coneberry
Village. It was founded by the father of the current owner
of the restaurant, Christine. Her father, Bob, named it
Leonore Christine after his wife and his daughter because
he could not come up with anything better. Bob sold LC a
few years ago to his daughter and he took it upon himself
to be the restaurant's chef. As much fun it is to work in
a restaurant that is your own, Christine has got a secret
passion, Origami. Whenever she has got a free minute she
can be found behind the restaurant, on the stairs that lead
into the alley, together with Kim, her Origami teacher. He
works in the restaurant too, as a waiter, waiting on his big
breakthrough as an Origami-Star. He has the manuscript
for his first Origami-book lying on his desk, only waiting
for a chance to have it read by a publisher. Everybody
has dreams ...

In This House : Abbey Garden 2

This is Antoinette and she is very fond of Halloween
parties. Every year she is the one that organises the
Coneberry Village Halloween Celebrations in her own
home. She lives in an old part of the former Abbey and
has an enormous haunted hall that she uses for several
Coneberry activities. Her haunted hall is inhabited by
three ghosts that love having living people around them.
They are friendly to everyone and the villagers are
quite fond of them. Especially Abbot Brown is a popular
ghost, as he likes a glass of wine and gets very merry
after two or three.
The Halloween celebrations already start early in the
morning when she finishes the decorations that have
been set up around Coneberry Village and her
festive hall during the Thirteen Days of Halloween.
She puts up the centerpieces on the dinnertables and
checks if the everything she planned is ready to go.
She puts the last of the Halloween Cakes in the oven
and makes to-do-lists for the people that will come
to help her out. At around half past nine the women
of the Coneberry Housewife Society come to help her.
There are women that will go round Coneberry to deliver
costumes, other women will begin dinner preparations.
During the afternoon and the early evening Coneberry's
children have their party and they go trick or treating.
During the evening the grown ups have their
Halloween dinner with scary food, bloody drinks and
lots of creepy party fun. Late in the evening, when they
walk home, they say to eachother that this was the
best Halloween party ever. They say that every year.

Twenty year-old Lydia was truely a woman of spirit and
capacity. She was a nurse and had been an employee of the
army for two years when she met Gregory. At 27, Gregory
was the youngest Major ever. He did not agree with the
reasons behind the war they were now fighting in. He had
always believed in humanity but was now extremely
disappointed by what he had witnessed in the recent years.
When Gregory was injured, trying to save the newest member
of his platoon, he was delivered into the care of Lydia.
Lydia hated war. She hated the army too, but she had to take
any work that she could get because the world was now
enveloped in a crisis and the army payed well. Gregory had
to stay in the hospital for quite a while and he and Lydia spent
many an hour enjoying eachother's company and the
conversations about any and every topic that came up in their
heads. By the time Gregory's wounds had healed, the war was
over and both Lydia and Gregory travelled home, to their
families. But not before they exchanged adresses and
immediately the letters began to travel between them. After
a year of writing Gregory asked Lydia to become his wife, and
she happily said "Yes". Alas, i can not tell you that they lived
happily ever after because just days after they celebrated their
wedding, Lydia and Gregory died in an accident whilst travelling
on the night train. As they were asleep when the accident
happened they did not feel pain or fear, and atleast they are
now together in death, for all eternity.

True Happiness lives in Old Town Square 45.
The Buttercups feel they are the luckiest couple
in the world. Mr.Buttercup was sent out on a
secret mission, you see. The newlyweds thought their
life together was over because it was a Dangerous
Assignment, Mr. Buttercups' boss had told them so.
Mrs.Buttercup waited and waited and her patience
was rewarded ! Mr.Buttercup returned and it felt
they were falling in love all over again. "Sweetheart,"
Mr.Buttercup said to Mrs.Buttercup, "its feels like your
love is giving me wings. I am so happy with you, i seem
to flutter through life". Ans so they did, fluttering through
life, happily ever after.

Halloween Pennant Challenge

My challenge on http://artonthedarkside.blogspot.com/

"Goodmorning everyone ! Thank you all who have
participated in last week's challenge, it was fun to
see what you have come up with again :)

And as is the case each week : a new thursday means
a new challenge. And it is quite a special one for me,
because it is my first one to host ! So i hope my challenge
for you tickles your imagination :) I atleast had fun with it,
so i am keeping my fingers crossed.

This week's challenge is : make a Halloween Pennant.
Halloween is still weeks away, but still it might be smart to
start making decorations because often it goes the same
way as with Christmas : you have lots of plans for cards and
decorations, but you end up not having enough time. If
Halloween is not your thing, you can choose to make a
"dark pennant" or a "scary pennant".

You can use this picture as a base for your pennant,
it is a really big picture, but you can ofcourse change
the size to whatever you like.

This is what i came up with with myself, now you go do your
thing and enjoy yourself !"

In This House : Market Street 2

Be welcome in one of Coneberry Village's hotels,
the Coneberry Royale. The hotel is run by the
Gaultier brothers, Jean and Paul. Jean is taking
care of the daily affairs and Paul is maintaining
the state of the hotel. Whereas Jean is very
outgoing and making sure every guest in the Royale
is feeling as welcome as possible, Paul is the silent
type. He takes honour in whatever it is he does,
even if it means repairing a leaking flushing cistern,
and believes in the expression : silence is golden.
To outsiders he might come across as against the
grain, but his family and friends know that he is
a deep feeling, loving man with a heart of gold.
The Gaultier brothers never married. "We just
have not got the time to look for suitable ladies",
they tell those who ask them about this subject.
"And we are not lonely at all, we have each other !",
they usually add.

WIP : Halloween

When the weather looks like this, there is really only
one thing left to do : Halloween Preparations !

So here are some projects in progress : a recycled
yoghurt-container will become a Halloween basket.

Recycled pizza-box cardboard will become a pennant
or a part of a string of bunting.

An old, secondhand houseshaped shadowbox will
become a Halloween-calendar-house.

In This House : Chapel Road 31

Chapel Road 31 is the home of the Froste family. The family
lives in an enormous house, which used to be a part of
Coneberry's abbey. It is just as well that the house is as big
as it is, since there are so many members of the Froste family
living there. There are Alain and Marie, and their four
children. Then there is Alain's brother Bruno and his fiancee
Julie. Also living with them is old Mister Froste's cousin twice
removed, Yves, who used to live in Canada before moving
back to Coneberry Village. And last but not least, there is
Gwendoline, Alain's and Bruno's niece. It is Gwendoline that
stands out most of all the Frost family members. She does
not stand out because she is talking a lot, on the contrary.
Gwendoline has not spoken a word in her life. She may not
speak, but she creates the most beautiful paintings you have
ever seen. The other Frostes usually say that Gwendoline
speaks through her brushes.

Card : Birthday Card

I made this Birthday Card for my father, i tried
to make a really manly card, and i think i succeeded.

In This House : Ocean View 2

Coneberry's lighthouse is located in Ocean View 2. In The
Old Lighthouse lives Juniper Shea, together with her two
cats, Eleanor and Rigby. Juniper is the daughter of The Old
Lighthouse's keeper Mister Shea, who died two years ago.
He had not been old when he died, but the Shea-family men
have a habit of dying young. Now his daughter Juniper is taking
care of the lighhouse duties and she loves it ! Ever since she had
been a little girl she had been learning from and helping out her
father, so it was only natural for her to become the new
lighthouse keeper. The Coneberry Villagers sometimes tell
jokes about Juniper, that she is keeping the lighthouse to be
able to use The Old Lighthouse's search light to look for a
handsome seaman that could be her Prince Charming.

Altered Book : Paris

For me the archetype of a big city (or ultimate big city)
is Paris, i really love it there. Especially the small streets
with the interesting boutiques draw me in.
