Kat uit de gracht : Cat out of the canal

Remember that i wrote about Luna (Ploesiepoesie.nl)
where you can order look-a-likes of your feline furry
friends ? Well, Luna has made a mascotte for the
foundation my sister and her boyfriend are doing
work for. This foundation hangs thick ropes in canals
so that the cats who fall in the water have a possibillity
to climb out using the ropes. Without the ropes they
drown because the walls of the embankment are too
high for them to climb out on their own.

Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis, also known as Northern Lights, above
Norway earlier this week. Not unheard of, but uncommon
over the southern part of the country.

New book

Another new book : knitting Christmas Balls with the
dynamic duo Carlos and Arne ! I have been wanting this
book ever since it came out last year in norwegian. But
since i am such a noob at reading and understanding
patterns, i did not buy it. But now it has been translated
into english, german and dutch so i was excited to finally
get my hands on it. The knitting pattern was actually
easier than i had thought. Keep an eye out for a full
review from me later.

Birthday fun

This year my birthday was filled with surprises : the first
thing was of course that not only my sister was visiting,
but my mum also.

The second thing was that there was a new shop was
opening at ten o'clock and there were ten jackets for
the first ten visitors for the amount of one norwegian
crowns (12 eurocents). My sister and i got the first
two jackets :D

Then there was the beautiful weather : it was warm
enough to sit outside in the sun, and that we did
while eating cake and knitting.
In the afternoon we went for a walk around the lake
nearest to our house and it was fantastic with the
sun and almost no wind.

New books

I recieved two hobby books from my sister for my
birthday, one of them was on my list and the other
was a total surprise which was a lot of fun !
Both are really fun books with lots of inspiration
and gorgeous photographs. I will be posting a
review soon.

A trip to Stavanger

A visit from my mum and sister would not be complete
without a trip to Stavanger, so we did just that on monday.
We shopped for all kinds of things, had coffee and
hamburgers at the Golden Arches and spent a good deal
of time at our favourite shop in Stavanger, Søstrene Grenes.



The shop had moved to another building since
we last visited.



As always we bought a lot, since their products
are really inexpensive and a lot of fun.



The shop is very colourful and you would not
believe the diversity of stuff they have.



Also, there was the Autumn Market in Stavanger where
there are salesmen from all over Europe to sell their
wares, typical for the coutries they come from.There
were also salesmen from The Netherlands, selling cheese,
cookies, sausages and other things.

Visitors from far, far away

Last week, my sister and i had planned spending a week
together, or so i thought ! I went to pick her up at the
airport when all of a sudden, not one, but two visitors came
through the sliding doors. I was totally stunned because
the second person was my mum who has always been
afraid of flying. She had been very brave and decided to
get on that airplane and show what she is made of.

Needless to say i was extremely impressed and proud
because i know it must have been very scary.
To make a long story short : instead of a "sisters-week",
we celebrated a "girls-week" and had lots of fun !
Shopping, crafting, knitting, baking, cooking, walking,
watching movies, what more can a girl ask for ?

So on saturday we went to Sandnes. We shopped for
clothes, had coffee and cakes and generally had a
good time.

On sunday we stayed indoors and knitted because
of the bad weather. It did not rain, it poored and
there was a storm blowing. So we lit a fire, made a
cheesecake and cocooned !

On monday we took the buss to Oltedal to visit
the Gjesdal Spinneri, a wool factory, where they always
have great deals on wool and cottons yarns. We bought
a lot of yarn and had coffee and muffins before embarking
on the 14 km walk back home.

The weather was dreadful but we had fun anyway.
On the way home we passed a gasstation where we
had planned to eat a hamburger, they make really
good ones there. So as sort of a reward for the toiling
in rain and wind, we enjoyed three tasty hamburgers.
