You are what you eat.
What are you made of ?

A new bird, again

Another "first contact" when it comes to the ornithological
world. While walking i met this pretty bird.



It is called Zonotrichia albicollis, a White-throated Sparrow
(Witkeelgors / Hvitstrupespurv) and it is about the
size of a House Sparrow. For more information about

Nature fun

On one of my most recent training walks i had some
beautiful encounters in nature.




First i saw a squirrel with the sun shining from behind it
making it light up, so to say. Of course when it saw me
looking at it, it decided to move.



A bit further on i saw a big group of geese and when i got
closer i saw that they had young with them. Young in many
different sizes. I found that a bit strange, i thought all
baby geese would hatch about the same time.

Nijmegen Four Days Marches 2010, day 4

Our fourth and last marching day for this Vierdaagse
started cold and misty. It was so beautiful that everyone
was really enjoying the sights.



After about three hours the mist had to give way to the
rising sun and we were treated to a walking day with
superb temperature, little wind and best of all : no rain !



This year is the first year we managed to walk in our
walking shorts and skirts all the way and we never
needed to use our rain clothes, and that was a treat.

Like every Vierdaagse we had a lot of fun even though
everyone is very sore and tired at the end of it. It is all
about pushing yourself and resetting your limits.
We will see you next year, Nijmegen !

Nijmegen Four Days Marches 2010, day 3

Today we experienced the Queen's Stage of this
edition of the Four Days Marches, the day of
Groesbeek, and it was a really wonderful day.



The temperature went down about eight degrees
in comparison to yesterday and although the
humidity was still quite high, it was fantastic
walking weather.



This day's walk lead us over five hills which makes
this third stage the prettiest of the four.

Nijmegen Four Days Marches 2010, day 2

Day two of the marches is the day of Wijchen and also
Pink Wednesday, where the walkers are lead through
the gay quarter of Nijmegen, and it is a huge party
each year.



The temperatures were well over 30 degrees celcius
again this day and the humidity was high too. That
combination made the walk a difficult one.



All of us made it with only minor problems, even though
we had a hard day. My mother had the hardest day
because she had quite a bad backpain, let us hope the
pain will be less tomorrow.

Nijmegen Four Days Marches 2010, day 1

Today was the day of Elst. The alarmclock went at 03:30
hours so we were able to get to Nijmegen as early as
possible to get walking because the temperature was
expected to get (high) up in the thirties.



When we started to walk we were treated to a beautiful
sunrise as you can see in the pictures.
It was a hot and moist day and it was quite a difficult
march, but all of us made it again and are preparing
ourselves for day two, tomorrow.

Four Days Marches

Today was the day we have been looking forward to for
a while now : we picked up our wristbands for the
biggest marching event in the world. These wristbands
allow us to take part in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches.



Because of the expected extreme weather conditions on
Tuesday the 20th of July the organisation has decided to
change the start- and finish-times to: 50 km --> 03.00
hours, 40 km grp 1 --> 04.15 hours, 40 km grp 2 -->
05.15 hours and 30 km --> 06.00 hours. The prediction
is that the temperature will reach 33 degrees celcius,
or even higher.



This year we are participating for the sixth time (including
the year that the marches were cancelled after the first day
because of the extreme weather conditions) and hope to
receive the medal below the upcoming friday :

New neighbours

We found to have some new neighbours. Needless to say
we were not thrilled, especially because they set up
camp behind the wooden outside wall and the inside
wall of the house.
